Inspiring Hope & Restoring Health

Millions of Americans suffer from chronic pain. Weeks, months, even years of constant pain takes its toll on the body and also negatively alters the sufferer’s emotions, state of mind, and even their personal relationships. Over time, prescribed medications could lead to addictions, compounding the initial pain and suffering, and the victim loses hope for relief. This paints a pretty grim but realistic picture.

Many people are not aware that there is hope for those with chronic pain through many treatment options. For those in Denton County, hope – and help – is right in your neighborhood!

Advanced Pain Institute of Texas (API) in Lewisville is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary pain management practice focusing on exceptional patient care for a wide range of chronic pain conditions. API’s mission is to provide world-class pain care in an encouraging and educational environment, which they accomplish every day. Their cutting edge, minimally-invasive treatment is tailored to each patient’s specific medical needs. Founders Dr. Eric Anderson and Dr. John Broadnax opened their doors in 2017 with an impressive 20-plus years of combined experience in pain management treatment.

Dr. Anderson completed his Pain Fellowship at Texas Tech University, which offers one of the country’s highest-rated pain programs. He is educated and experienced in all forms of pain management but specializes in advanced interventional pain and spine treatments.

Dr. Broadnax graduated from medical school at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, which is rated as one of the top schools of medicine. He completed both his Anesthesiology Residency and Pain Fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board-certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and he also specializes in advanced interventional pain and spine treatments.

“Pain management is a relatively young field and constantly growing in terms of advanced care and understanding what causes pain,” Dr. Broadnax said.

Dr. Anderson added, “There is still untapped information about how pain is generated, and the field is open to new innovations.”

Rising to the challenge of treating pain the right way, the talented team at Advanced Pain Institute practice more advanced techniques than your average pain center. They utilize a multimodal approach to pain management when developing a specialized treatment plan exclusively for each patient. Working together to provide superior patient care is paramount, and they even developed a set of core values (I REACH) for staff members to reflect those values when interacting with API associates and patients alike:

I – Integrity, R – Respect, E – Excellence, A – Authenticity, C – Courage, H – Humility.

API treats head-to-toe conditions of the spine, nerves, and musculoskeletal system.

“There are two main types of pain,” Dr. Broadnax said. “Acute, which starts suddenly and lasts for a brief time, and chronic, which can begin as acute but progresses to become a longer-term problem.”

At Advanced Pain Institute, they treat both.

“Well-educated patients have the best chance of recovery and will, in turn, experience less pain on a daily basis. It’s critical to healing that they have a full understanding of their medical issues and understand their treatment plan,” Dr. Anderson said. “In addition to treating patients, we teach them about their pain and the reasons behind it.”

Dr. Broadnax adds, “We focus on helping patients improve their daily function and decreasing the need for pain medications by using a multidisciplinary treatment plan combining interventional procedures, adjunctive medication management, physical therapy, and behavioral medicine.”

The doctors conduct their practice in a collaborative environment, working together with some of the most distinguished physicians and health care providers in our area.

It takes a team to carry out the amazing work performed by API, and the team agrees that Physician Assistant Riley Bingham is a valuable asset to the practice. Her interest in pain management began after meeting with Dr. Anderson and Dr. Broadnax when they discovered that she shared the same values and goals for patient care. Riley’s contributions include thorough patient evaluation, diagnosis, and customizing patient treatment plans.

Advanced Pain Institute of Texas is just that – advanced in their methods of practice to treat chronic pain. They have changed numerous patients’ lives to minimize their pain and regain quality of life, yet Dr. Anderson and Dr. Broadnax will never rest on their laurels. With the same passion and enthusiasm that inspires hope in their patients, they continue the challenge of restoring patient health.
